🌥️ by Day, 🔥 by Night

We talk about finding our rest in God, but are you willing to be a resting place for God?

Not that God needs a nap, but he likes to spend quality time with us. In a garden, say, or on a park bench. In the rain or in the sun. At a special place or time of day. While we pause with him, he can share what he has to give. He won't force his way. It's up to you to decide whether to give him focused attention and permission.

After God heard Abraham's descendants crying out for relief from torturous slavery, he rescued them. For years, he appeared to this nation as a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, a tangible manifestation of the glorious presence of God as Yahweh "I Am that I Am." In dwelling (tabernacling) among this people, he released treasure: the covenant promise of loving rescue, guidance on when and where to move, and protection from attackers.

JoAnn McFatter's extended song, "Cloud by Day, Fire by Night," is my favorite song on this topic. She meditates on God's love in this form, his desire to abide in his people as a resting place: What thoughts come to your mind as you listen and soak?

CeCe Winans' Worthy of It All! offers another good resting soak, where saints and angels together are bowing (submitting, surrendering) before God's throne, and elders are casting their crowns (authority, dominion) before the Lamb of God, and everyone is singing "You are worthy of it all," letting incense arise (our prayers) to the Holy One, "for from You are all things and to You are all things, You deserve the glory!"

Amen and amen!
